Program Description:
JCLA is a college prep program for students interested in newspaper or television writing or production; law; creative writing; teaching; or business. In addition to CPS math, science, history, and English requirements, JCLA students will complete five career education courses in communications and social sciences.
Features of JCLA:
1. College prep academics (Honors/AP classes; partnership with
local universities)
2. School newspaper, school television broadcast, & literary journal
3. Courtroom field trips, mock trials, and police & fire training
4. Service learning internships.
Required Courses:
All JCLA students are encouraged to complete
. 4 years of HS English
. 4 years of HS Math
. 4 years of HS Science
. 4 years of HS Social Science as suggested by the ISBE and the HSTW.
JCLA students can take classes in one of the following minors:
. A minimum of 3 years of journalism.
. A minimum of 3 years of law.
. A minimum of 3 years of Radio/TV.
